Call for papers

We are cordially inviting you to submit papers and to attend The 5th International Joint Conference New Challenges for Statistical Software - The Use of R in Official Statistics - uRos2017.

The conference will be held in Bucharest-ROMANIA, on 6-7 November, 2017.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a public forum for researchers from academia and institutes of statistics to present, exchange ideas and discuss developments in state-of-the-art statistical software commonly used in applied economics and statistics. The most focused debates are expected to be the use of R in official Statistics.

The selected research proposals/papers will be published in a special issue by the Romanian Statistical Review (ISSN 1018-046X): www.revistadestatistica.ro. Starting from 2016, Romanian Statistical Review has been accepted for coverage in the Web of Science Core Collection - Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), a Thomson Reuters database.

Other publication opportunities will be considered (ISBN volume - published by Ecological University of Bucharest, indexed by RePEc).

Publication decisions will be based an a standard peer-reviewing process.

Mark van der Loo had (co-)authored several papers and R packages that are somehow related to data cleaning technology/methodology. These include, but are not limited to, R packages ‘stringdist’, ‘validate’, ‘deductive’ and ‘lintools’. For Statistics Netherlands he is an internal consultant and statistical researcher, and responsible for the institute’s R distribution. He also teaches R and data cleaning methodology, as well as a course on data management at the University of Utrecht for the EMOS program (European Master of Official Statistics).

Valentin Todorov - Bulgaria - R in the statistical office: the UNIDO experience

Valentin Todorov is a senior management information officer with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). He received a doctoral degree in statistics from Vienna University of Technology, Austria and holds a masters degree in mathematics and statistics from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria and the University of Vienna, Austria. His main research activities include multivariate data analysis, computational statistics, robust statistics, official statistics and statistical information systems.Valentin Todorov has authored one book, book chapters and many scientific articles in the area of mathematical statistics and statistical information systems and acts as a reviewer for a number of international statistics journals. He has developed and maintains at CRAN several packages for the statistical software environment R.
Prior to joining UNIDO in 2006 Valentin Todorov has worked on large scale international projects in the fields of aviation (Austrocontrol), telecommunications (Ericsson) and academy (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences).

Marcello D’Orazio, PhD in Statistics at University of Bari (Italy), started working at Italian national institute of Statistics (Istat) in 1998 as a researcher in statistical methodology (senior researcher since 2008). At Istat he has been involved in various project concerning quality of official statistics, survey data integration, agriculture statistics, use of R in production of official statistics. Since April 2016 is on secondment at Food and Agriculture organization (FAO) of the United Nations providing methodological and statistical governance expertise in support to the work of the Chief Statistician and the Statistical Division.

Hervé Cardot defended his PhD in Statistics in 1997 at the University Paul Sabatier (Toulouse, France). He is Professor of Statistics at the Université de Bourgogne, Dijon, since 2007 and head of the team SPOC (Statistics, Probability, Optimization and Control) at the Institut de Mathématiques de Bourgogne.
His research interests are functional data analysis, robustness in high dimension and survey sampling as well as applications of statistics in various domains (climatology, economics, proteomics, energy, remote sensing, sensometry, …)

She earned a Ph.D. in Statistics and Probabilities from the Romanian Academy of Sciences in 2004, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Academy of Economics Studies in 2006. Ciprian Alexandru is an Associate Professor and Vice-Rector of the Ecological University of Bucharest. On the capital market in Romania he is authorized as an investment consultant. The Ph.D. in Economics was obtained under aegis of the Romanian Academy, National Institute of Economic Research. He completed a postdoctoral program that implemented the use of R as a tool for analyzing the evolution indices on the stock market.

Bogdan Oancea acted as project manager and software developer, participating in various projects using Java, C, C++, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, SQL, R, Hadoop, Hive, HiveQL, Pig, PigLatin. He is a member of the Eurostat Task Force on Big Data and UNECE’s High Level Group project on Big Data.
